Shucked Lexington Theatre reviews
A hit & a miss
The show began a quarter to 11pm, with the evening feeling like walking into an oven. M's request of no AC made it a bit torturous for the audience, as it had to be at least 80 degrees in there. This night included many monologues from Madonna, some may argue the constraints of the theater may harness the creativity of the artist. However, the production was plain and simple, on par with a high school drama class undertaking. The setlist felt like it could have done with an edit, as 3-4 songs could have been dropped to include these long talk sessions. At times, when she meant to be inspiring, it felt ingenious, while other times it felt like a bit of a ramble. It never fully connected with the audience. The new album is not her best, and a little less wouldn't hurt. Some of the older songs like Human Nature and a snippet of La Isla Bonita are just straight out tired, as she's used them in the last 3 tours. A couple of highlights were Frozen, which had the emotional content missing from most of the show, and the moment she passed right by me, and I was able to touch her hand at the end of the show. Overall, the intimate setting felt like it was not used to the best of her ability, leaving me a little disappointed.
